Who am I?

I am Dani Del Rio, nice to meet you! I graduated magna cum laude in BS Computer Science as the Class 2021 BS Computer Science Program Awardee at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. I started programming when I made Minecraft mods in Java at 13, and I haven't stopped since.

I'm most experienced in the software engineering side of things, starting from when I delved into Django in 2018 with a web project thanks to my home organization, Computer Society of the Ateneo. I became the organization's VP for Research and Development in 2019, and from there I took on more projects that sharpened my skills in front-end, back-end and project management.

I started to take an interest in Machine Learning when I listened to a podcast called Machine Learning Guide. I then took several electives to apply my learnings on ML to actual projects, eventually culminating in personal projects and a software engineering/data science internship at Algomo, a chatbot start-up based in London. I hope to dive into more openings that involve intersections of software engineering and ML such as MLOps and Data Engineering, so that I may expand my craft in more areas.

Lastly, I joined our university's Programming Varsity in 2018, where we competed in local and international competitions that test our ability in solving problems related to data structures and algorithms (DSA). This experience has strengthened my foundations in DSA and making programs more efficient, which I hope to apply more to my software engineering and data science experiences.

When I'm not coding, I'm a Los Angeles Lakers fan who can't stop watching NBA games and video breakdowns of basketball plays on Youtube. I occasionally play basketball and Ultimate Frisbee when it's not a pandemic (though I'm not very good). I also love reading books (though I'm a very slow reader), and watching movies (follow me on Letterboxd) and clips of the same movies on Youtube at least once a week.
